De Atley to talk iOS security measures
This year, Apple will for the first time ever present at the annual Black Hat security conference, Bloomberg reports. The conference is famous for its hacking demonstrations, where programmers will often show how they can bypass the security measures implemented in major products. Apple's presence will come in the form of Dallas De Atley, manager of the company's platform security team, who will give a talk on Thursday about the some of the security technology in iOS.

Launches contest at Black Hat security conference
Microsoft used the advent of the Black Hat conference to start up the BlueHat Prize, a contest to generate new ideas for defensive approaches to computer security. A total of $250,000 in prizes will be given away to those who meet Microsoft's targets. The theme of the competition will vary from year to year depending on what's most pressing.

Black Hat speech canned
A Georgia-born author, researcher and speaker who was due to deliver a speech about a new flaw in Apple's FileVault encryption system at the annual Black Hat hacker convention next week in Las Vegas will no longer be speaking at the event, according to a recent report. The encryption system is used in the Mac OS X v10.3 and newer operating systems. Charles Edge's scheduled presentation was pulled from the scheduled talks last week. Edge claims to have signed confidentiality agreements with Apple prevented him from delivering the address.
