Lumia 2520 travel charger sold in United States also a risk
Nokia has stopped sales of the Lumia 2520 in Europe, over a faulty charger supplied with the tablet. The manufacturer has also issued a product advisory warning over the AC-300 charger, with owners in Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Russia, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom "strongly advised to suspend use of the charger until further notice."
Reign23 Bolt portable USB wall battery charger released
Reign23 has released its combination USB wall charger and rechargeable portable battery, Bolt. Its portable battery has a 3000mAh capacity, large enough for two full charges of an iPhone or other mobile device. Initially launched as a Kickstarter project in 2013, Bolt is small, at 2.75 inches by 1.33 inches by 1.10 inches. Its smart charge technology automatically bypasses the battery when fully charged, and is available in blue and black color options. Priced at $60, the Bolt USB Wall Charger and Battery can be purchased online.
Manufacturers could be forced to use single connector for charging in EU by 2017
The European Parliament has voted to proceed with proposals to require smartphones and mobile devices to use a single common charger. The new draft law was approved by 550 votes to 12 on Thursday, with 8 abstentions by European parliament members (MEPs), with the vote itself bringing the new regulation closer to being implemented in European Union member states in the future.
D-Link announces 11AC portable router and charger
Announced today, D-Link is now shipping its 802.11ac router, entitled the Wi-Fi AC750 Portable Router and Charger (DIR-510L). Allowing users to quickly create a Wi-Fi hotspot from an existing Internet connection, the DIR-510L incorporates Wireless AC750 technology as to produce and maintain fast connection speeds.
Portable Puku S8 charger offers 900 hours of smartphone standby time
Puku has announced its new portable charger, the Puku S8. Featuring a powerful rechargeable battery, the S8 provides three to five full charges for an average smartphone in a small form factor. Compatible with smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices that charge through a micro USB cable (or adapter for micro USB), its compact design allows for easy carrying while travelling. One charging of the S8 can power up to 900 hours of standby time, 36 hours of talk time and 153 hours of media play time. The Puku S8 is available in six colors, and is priced at $100.
Thinium chargers offer thin profile, wall and portable charging options
Thinium has announced the debut of its line of slim portable chargers for mobile devices this week at CES. The Thinium Charge and Thinium ReCharge can charge a smartphone device as a wall charger, and can accommodate Android, Windows phones and iPhones.
Manufacturers could be forced to use one standard charger connection
Smartphone manufacturers will need to decide on a single standard battery charger for mobile devices, according to a provisional European law. The European Parliament has created an outline agreement for a single charger that its members will vote upon in March, which could potentially lead to the law being implemented as early as 2017.
Chromebook shipping back to retailers, replacement chargers being issued
Google and HP have started shipping the Chromebook 11 to retailers again, following the charger recall. The Chrome OS notebook remains unchanged, except that it is supplied with a charger that appears to be from the Chromebook Pixel with a micro-USB tip, though apparently it charges at a slower rate to the charger originally supplied with the device.
Charger recall affects over 140,000 Chromebooks
Google and HP are starting to recall micro-USB chargers sold with the Chromebook 11, due to a number of reported heat-related incidents. A total of nine reports of power chargers overheating and melting have led to the recall, which asks for customers to contact Google for a free replacement, and to stop charging the Chrome OS notebook with the faulty device.
Once again, third-party 'knockoff' charger suspected in death
A 28-year-old man was found dead in Rayong province in Thailand, clutching a burnt iPhone 4S in his hand in another case of electrocution -- though police say that once again the use of a third-party charger is believed to be the source of the electric malfunction. Photos taken at the scene strongly suggest that the charger, which was plugged in while the man was using or lying on the device, was not an Apple-made charger. Two other people, both from China, have died or fallen into a coma from faulty chargers connected to iPhones.

A 23-year-old Chinese woman who was allegedly electrocuted a week ago while answering a call on her charging iPhone 4 was apparently using a third-party charger rather than an actual Apple unit, according to state-run CCTV. The incident is still being investigated by local authorities and Apple, and was originally reported as having involved an iPhone 5. Photos released by CCTV, however, clearly show the dead woman's iPhone was the 2010 iPhone 4, and the charger was not the standard Apple model. Third-party chargers are common, but can be dangerous.
Proof of concept attack hardware uses $45 computer, USB
Security researchers have unearthed a method that can add software to an iOS device using a charger. Researchers from the Georgia Institute of Technology will reportedly demonstrate a proof-of-concept charger at the Black Hat security conference in late July that will be capable of installing malware onto an iPhone without the user's knowledge.

Unlike typical solar chargers, the SunVolt allows for charging speeds identical to that of a traditional wall charger, while still boasting a portable design. Equipped with multiple charger outputs, users can power more than one electronic device at a time from the output of the solar panel.
Carrier aims to reduce environmental impact of phones
O2 and HTC will sell a future phone without the charger bundled in the box. According to Pocket Lint, the pilot scheme between the phone manufacturer and the UK carrier seeks to reduce the number of "wasted" charger in circulation, forcing customers to use existing chargers for other devices, a USB port on a computer, or to buy a charger separately.

System pairs all necessary features
Solar Components has finally begun shipping its latest solar charger, which was demonstrated this week at Macworld Expo. MacNN checked out the Joos Orange, a slab-shaped device that combines solar cells with an integrated battery. The general design reminded us of Solio's offerings, but with a bigger battery that is claimed to charge a dead iPad up to 65 percent.
New higher-wattage solar kits available as well
QuickerTek has expanded its line of solar chargers for Mac notebooks to include the MacBook Air (11- and 13-inch third-generation models) as well as all the current MacBook and MacBook Pro models. The Apple Juicz Solar Charger, a photoelectric tarp, is available in 27- and 55-watt capacities and is designed to be used outdoors or in environments where sunlight is available but reliable convention power is not. The 27-watt model is designed for MacBooks and MBAs; the larger 55-watt version is intended for MacBooks and MacBook Pros.
Device charges all iOS devices, including iPad
MacNN reviewed the Kensington PowerBolt Micro Car Charger. The charger sits flush on the car power port, with a female USB port capable of powering any mobile device that connects via USB cables. The charger comes with a detachable USB-to-iPod cable that powers iPhones and iPads -- the latter device getting a fast charge from the 2.1 Amp PowerBolt.
PowerBullet Car/ Wall charger with USB ports
ezGear has announced that its PowerBullet 2x2charger for the iPhone and iPod now works with the new iPad. The PowerBullet works as both a car and wall-charger, with the wall charger portion hidden beneath a removable lid. Features include two USB ports capable of charging multiple USB-powered devices simultaneously, and support for a wide range of media players such as Zune and Sansa, as well as Nokia, Motorola, and BlackBerry mobile phones.
Adds eight hours of additional talk time
Dexim has added to its line of iPhone 3G and 3GS accessories with the release of the DCA199 Foldable Solar-Powered P-Flip. The new iPhone charger features an integrated 2000mAh lithium polymer battery and two camouflage-colored solar panels, and requires around 15 hours of continuous sunlight exposure in order to fully charge. When equipped with the iPhone it provides up to an additional eight hours worth of talk-time, 15 hours of video viewing or game playing, or a maximum of 60 more hours worth of audio time.
Griffin also ships PowerDuo for iPad
Griffin has announced iPad compatibility for three new chargers. The Mac, iPhone, iPod and iPad accessory maker has launched PowerJolt options with 2.1-amp power capability, allowing them to charge iPads which require a heavier power draw than iPhones and iPods. The PowerJolt Plus for iPad features a pass-through port for another car-charging unit, while still powering an iPad, iPhone or iPod with a dock connector. It allows users to power their Apple product and still power a GPS or USB-based item via a second 12-volt connector. It has a built-in SmartFuse and uses a coiled charging cable.
Product slated for CTIA 2010
IDAPT has announced that its i4 universal charging system is scheduled for launch at the upcoming CTIA conference in Las Vegas. The device can be used to simultaneously charge up to four mobile devices, with compatibility extending to over 4,000 devices such as iPhones, iPods, BlackBerries, Nintendo DS, PSP, PS3 controllers, and more.
Chargepod V2 charges seven items simultaneously
Callpod has introduced a new multi-device charger and two Bluetooth headsets. The Chargepod V2 is said to be the world’s first multi-device charger and docking system for PC and Mac laptops, according to the company. It offers three different sides, each with various connections, and is capable of simultaneously charging up to seven products. The first side integrates a computer connection, while the second can charge up to three small devices. The third side provides a 3-port USB hub.
IDR655m noise-isolating earphones with mic
Scosche has announced its CES 2010 product line-up of new iPhone and iPod accessories, consisting of the reviveLITE II, a new tapSTICK model, flipSYNC, and IDR655m earphones. reviveLITE II is an improved version of the company’s previously released reviveLITE iPhone and iPod charger, complete with an additional USB charging port that can be used to simultaneously charge any USB-powered device. Similar to the original, it features a cordless charging design and includes an integrated LED nightlight.

Mophie has launched three new charging devices, geared towards charging iPhones, iPods and other USB-charge compatible devices. The first product is a $15 Low-Profile USB Car Charger, which plugs into a vehicle's power socket and provides a single USB outlet.
GizFever intros new iPhone accessories
GizFever has introduced three new products to its line of mobile phone accessories, the All-in-One USB Power/Data Link Cable, MultiFunctional Mobile Speaker, and the Multifunctional Digital Solar Charger II. The all-in-one USB cable enables users to power, recharge and transfer data from mobile phones such as the iPod and iPhone 3G, along with other portable gaming and music devices. The cable comes with seven different connectors including one for the DS Lite, PSP and a 5-pin mini USB; the cord itself stands approximately 138cm long.
AutoPower USB charger
RadTech has launched a new version of its in-vehicle charger for mobile devices, AutoPower. The charger features a lightweight fuseless design, along with fault-sensing shutdown technology to help prevent damage to equipment. It now comes with two USB ports and delivers a 5V 500mA output, while the housing measures just 3.3 x 1.1 x 1.3 inches. The charger supports the iPhone, iPod, Zune, or any other USB-chargeable devices.
PowerTraveller has re-launched its Powermonkey-Classic portable charger for mobile phones, providing four new colors and better performance. Previously only available in silver, the charger now comes in deep purple, piano-finish black, royal blue, and hot pink colors. The new Powermonkey-Classic carries over all its previous functions, but is slimmer and shorter.
Newer ships new gear
Newer Technology has launched its NewerTech Intelligent Battery Charging Stations for 13-inch Unibody MacBook and 15-inch MacBook Pros released prior to June, 2009. The charger/conditioner models, claimed to be the first-to-market, feature two battery bays for charging multiple batteries. One battery can be charged while another is being conditioned prior to charging.
Shuffle adapter announced
Dexim has announced its Shu-Lip charger for the iPod shuffle 3G. The device provides a USB 2.0 connector on one end and a headphone jack on the other, allowing a USB-to-iPod connection for both charging and syncing the newly announced iPod, but without a cord between separating the two ends. The new charger features an aluminum casing designed to match the aesthetics of the Shuffle.
DealNN: Kensington iPod ch
A variety of discounted items are currently being featured at DealNN. First up is the Kensington battery pack and charger for iPod and iPhone, priced at $29.99 at Amazon.com. Long-awaited fuel cell technology is about to reach consumers, and two companies are showing off competing technologies at CES. Medis Technologies is using alkaline technology in its squeeze-to-activate power packs, while Horizon Fuel Cell Tehnology
is using compact hydrogen-based cylinders about the size of conventional flashlight batteries.
iPhone Solar Charger cases
Solar Arcadia has launched its Solar Charger for both first generation and 3G iPhones. Capable of charging the iPhone while out in the sun, features include LED indicators for the charging and discharging state, and a reverse-current protection-circuit, integrated to prevent iPhone batteries from being discharged. Using a lithium ion polymer battery; the case offers a max output of 5V, and a charge of 6V. Material for the casing is made from sheepskin.
FastMac iV ships
FastMac has launched the FastMac iV, a charger and extended battery for the iPhone that also adds a built-in flash and can charge USB devices concurrently. The iV triples the iPhone's talk time to 24 hours, as well as 31 days of standby, over 20 hours of video or 70 hours of audio playback. The battery inside the iV is rated at 3100mAh and can power and charge the phone at the same time.
TuneCast works on iPhone3g
Belikin's TuneCast Auto for iPhone and iPod has received Apple's "Works With iPhone" certification for the iPhone 3G. TuneCast Auto is a car-charger and FM transmitter with automatic scanning of FM frequencies for the best reception. It offers a one-button scan for best stations and automatically optimizes audio and volume settings. The transmitter covers FM channels from 88.1MHz to 107.9MHz. TuneCast Auto for iPhone and iPod is available for $80 and also works with the iPhone 2G, iPod touch and numerous iPods.
Dual charge from wall, car
iPod accessory-maker ezGear has released PowerBullet 2x2, a wall- and car-charger that powers iPhones, iPods and other media players. With its two USB ports it can charge two devices at the same time. The PowerBullet has an external wall charger with a built-in car-charger available hidden beneath a removable lid, providing a user with one charger that can alternate between the car and home use. It is available now for $20. It is compatible with the iPhone 3g and 2G, as well as the iPod touch and other iPods.
MacBook Air solar power
QuickerTek is offering what it calls a "green" method of charging a Macbook Air. Announced on Friday, the Apple Juicz Solar Charger for the Macbook Air allows users to charge a Macbook Air using nothing other than solar power. There are three available models -- differing in size and charging power. All three are capable of folding up for storage and all also come with a stylish element bag for storing and carrying around the charger and a Macbook Air. The Apple Juicz Solar Charger is capable of charging a Macbook Air in between 5 to 14 hours, depending on the model being used. In order to use the charger an additional MagSafe adaptor must be purchased at the cost of $100 or QuickerTek can modify the customers current MagSafe adaptor for $25.
Solar-powered MacBook Air
QuickerTek has introduced a pricey way for MacBook Air owners to show how green they really are. "Apple Juicz" is described by the company as a “major breakthrough” because it powers and charges the MacBook Air at the same time. The Juicz comes in three models, a 19-watt version for $500, 29-watt model for $600 and a 58-watt model for $1000. Each come with solar panels that fold into an included 10.5 inch carrying bag.
iPod accessory manufacturer Griffin Technology on Thursday unveiled the PowerDock 2 and PowerDock 4, a new dual- and quad-slot charger for the iPod and iPhone. The PowerDock gives iPod owners two to four dock connectors with eight universal bezel adapters to hold and charge two iPods or iPhones at the same time. The brushed aluminum stand features a rubber bottom to prevent slipping. Griffin is selling the PowerDock 2 for $50, while the PowerDock 4 is selling for $70.
Portable Power Station 2
Generic dealer USBfever has released a second Portable Power Station intended for the iPhone. The device serves as a backup battery, temporarily recharging the internal one when connecting to wall socket is impractical; it attaches directly to an iPhone's dock connector, and starts the recharge process immediately. A second port at the base of the PPS2 lets users charge both the internal and external batteries simultaneously, or alternately sync with a computer as usual.
USBfever cases, hands free
USBfever today unveiled three new products for the iPhone and iPod: a Bluetooth stereo dongle, an iPhone stone-grain silicone case, and an iPhone car charger with an included dashboard mount. Rather than transferring audio over common FM frequencies – which can be problematic in high-density residential areas – the Bluetooth dongle transfers stereo A2DP signals to a music system. The Bluetooth adapter is available for $30.
Freeloader for iPod, more
UK-based Solar Technology today unveiled the Freeloader 8.0, a portable solar charger with a built-in battery, designed for the iPod and several other electronic devices. The Freeloader comes in silver and pink, and features two small sold-away solar panels that can charge the internal battery within 5 hours, supplying up to 18 hours of power for the iPod. Solar Technology is selling the Freeloader 8.0 for £30 (~$60 USD); as of now, it is available only in the UK.
Laptop bags, charger
Contour Design has launched a new line of laptop sleeves and accessories at Macworld 2008 in San Francisco. The new peices are made of a high tech anti-microbial neoprene that features advanced breathability, which allows for quick heat dissipation; notebook computers can be put in them and still cool off. Multiple types of sleeves offer different features; the range includes basic reversible sleeves, sleeves with single pockets, handles, and fashion inspired prints and patterns. Contour Design will be exhibiting their notebook sleeves, bags, and other mobility accessories at booth 2332 at Macwold 2008 in San Francisco. The Contour mobility notebook sleeves and bags will be available in early March. Prices will start at $29.95.
