Over $4,200 in downloadable plug-ins, tutorials, and more for $99
Earlier this week, Foto Promos announced its largest-ever bundle of resources, software, training, printing, memberships and other pro-photographer education in a special offer available through MacNN and Electronista called The Big Deal that includes over $4,200 worth of downloadable products for just $99. The bundle, which runs through Thursday, has raised over $31,000 for charity, and features contributions from Lindsay Adler, Jared Platt, Dave Cross, KelbyOne, Lee Varis, Gavin Gough, Tony Sweet, Rick Sammon, Phlearn, Photoshop Cafe, Mylio, Eyefi, Viewbug, AthenTech, and B&H Photo and Video, among others.
Apple CEO's gift currently worth $6.56 million, according to SEC
A new SEC filing by Apple has revealed that CEO Tim Cook donated 50,000 shares of Apple stock to an unnamed organization, which if sold now would be worth more than $6.56 million. Cook donated the shares out of his personal holdings of AAPL, and was required to file an SEC Form 4 to disclose the transfer, but did not specify which charity has received the gift. Cook has tended to donate to social justice and LGBT organizations.
Series of earthquakes leave 3,600 dead, aid urgently needed in stricken country
Following a major earthquake and series of aftershocks on Saturday in the small nation of Nepal, Apple has set up a special iTunes page for donations to the American Red Cross to aid in disaster relief. Visitors can donate in denominations ranging from $5 to $200, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the charity to help survivors and the families of the estimated 3,617 who have been reported as killed by the quake.
Proceeds again benefit Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice, Human Rights
For the third year running, there is an opportunity for a winning bidder to have lunch with Apple CEO Tim Cook, thanks to a Charitybuzz online auction. The lunch data and a pair of VIP tickets to one of Apple's future keynote events are on auction to raise money for Cook's preferred charity, the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights. Last year, a similar auction raised $330,000 for the center. Current bidding, with 21 days to go, is $37,500.
Company steps up community involvement initiative, soon to ramp to worldwide
On Monday, Apple launched a new program aimed at helping employees find ways to volunteer in their communities, which will further qualify to receive matching gifts from Apple's existing Matching Gifts Program, which has handed out more than $78 million to various charities and non-profits in the past four years. The Apple Global Volunteer Program will launch soon in the US and select cities in Australia and Ireland before rolling out worldwide, for both corporate and retail employees.
Apple music honcho raising money to fight pediatric cancer
Ian Rogers, who was previously the CEO of Beats Music and is still running the service now that it's at Apple, is auctioning a private lunch date in either Los Angeles or Cupertino as part of a charity fundraiser for The Pablove Foundation, a pediatric cancer research nonprofit. The auction, which is being run through Charitybuzz.com, estimates the value of the lunch at $3,000 but is of course hoping to raise much more.

In the span of three years, Apple's matching-donation program -- which encourages employee giving to recognized charities by matching their donation -- has raised more than $50 million. On Thursday, Apple notified employees that it would expand the program worldwide, and will begin donating money to charities where employees volunteer at a rate of $25 per hour. The expansion will bring the program to nearly all countries where Apple has a presence, the company said.
First non-disaster donation portal, will be active throughout October
City of Hope, a research and treatment charity focused on cancer and diabetes among other life-threatening illnesses, will be the recipient of donations given by iTunes users through a new portal on the iTunes Store and available for iOS, Mac and Windows users. The move, the first time Apple has set up a donation system for a non-disaster relief organization, is in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and will be available throughout October.
Ten percent will go to non-profit charities decided by Reddit users
Reddit announced on its blog that it will be donating a portion of its 2014 advertising revenue receipts to non-profit charities at the end of the year. Users will be able to decide which charities receive funding after the company closes out its books.
Ridley Scott, original Mac team members among special guests
While not an official Apple event, a celebration of Apple's past and the specifically the 30th anniversary of the debut of the Macintosh -- Apple's second big "hit" product after the Apple II, that went on to define the company for more than two decades -- will be held at the Flint Center in Cupertino, California on January 25, one day after the official anniversary. The event will feature various original Mac team veterans, previously-unseen video, and other surprises.
Invites users to learn more about and donate to charities
Google has brought its One Today charity app, which debuted originally on Android in July, to iOS devices. The app focuses on a different charity every day, presenting the user with information about its mission and easy ways to donate to it, encouraging users to give $1 (or more) to a charity that interests them. Donations can be shared with social networks or kept private, and are all tax deductible.
Customers can nominate charity to receive Amazon donation
Amazon has launched a program that will allow customers to donate money to charity using Amazon orders. AmazonSmile lets customers name a charity of their choice that will receive 0.5 percent of the price of their total Amazon purchase as a monetary donation, with the retailer advising that there is no cap on the amount that can be donated.
Stolen credit card used to hike price even higher, retracted
A "coffee" with Apple CEO Tim Cook, an offer being bid on for charity fundraising, has been hit with credit card fraud. A previous high bid of $605,000 was retracted after it was discovered to have been placed using a credit card that turned out to be stolen. The site, Charitybuzz, said the issue came to their attention immediately was swiftly retracted, dropping the high bid back to $600,000. The Cook meeting is by far the highest-bid item in the auction.
Apple CEO meeting sets record for charity site
A chance to spend some one-on-one facetime with the CEO of the world's most influential and profitable technology company is worth a lot; far more than anyone expected, as it turns out. Apple head Tim Cook has offered a half-hour "coffee" at Apple headquarters to the winning bidder in a charity auction that was initially valued as being worth $50,000. As of 6:45PM ET on Friday -- with 18 days remaining in the bidding -- the bidding has reached $580,000 after 81 bids. The auction benefits the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights.
Documentary Indie Game: The Movie included if median beat
The Humble Indie Bundle has fired up again for the last time in 2012. The new bundle brings four games for purchase, with an additional two games and documentary film if the average bundle purchase price is exceeded. As usual, the purchaser can divvy up the purchase price between the developers, charity, and the Humble Bundle purveyors themselves. Soundtracks for many of the games is also included (in lossy or lossless formats) in the purchase price.
Up to five DRM-free games available for charitable donation
The third Humble Bundle to feature Android games (as well as versions for Mac, Windows and Linux) has been launched, featuring up to five games in a bundle deal where users decide not only the amount they want to pay, but also what percentage of the price goes to the developers, the Humble Bundle team, or two charities -- digital rights group the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and the Child's Play organization, which donates gaming equipment and games to children's hospitals.
MAGFest auction for Child's Play
UPS has launched an updated version of its free mobile shipment utility for iOS devices. UPS Mobile includes a number of features for tracking shipments, creating labels, finding UPS locations, and more. With the latest release, a new "Scan to Track" feature has been added, allowing users to scan package tracing numbers with a phone's camera to obtain updated information. In addition, the software will also search for any tracking numbers stored on the device and automatically add them into the UPS app for tracking.
Name-your-own-price, DRM-free games
Days after the completion of the last Humble Bundle offer, developer Jeffrey Rosen has launched a new promotion, dubbed the Humble Introversion Bundle. As with previous offers, buyers set their own price for the bundle, which this time includes four games from Introversion (with an option to get two more games). All games work natively on all major platforms (Mac, Windows, Linux) and are DRM-free. The money raised is split according to the buyers' wishes.
Frozen Synapse bundle expanded
In memory of Steve Jobs' life, several Mac software companies are donating 100 percent of their profits to pancreatic cancer research. For the next two days, Realmac Software will collect all revenue generated by RapidWeaver, Analog, Courier and LittleSnapper and donate it to Pancreatic Cancer UK. Meanwhile, SmellyPuppy has announced that all of the profits made from QuickCal between now and October 14th will be given to the Lustgarden Foundation.
'Pay What You Want' offer includes all platforms
A charity bundle offer of games for Mac, Windows and Linux called the Humble Frozenbyte Bundle is available on a "Pay What You Want" basis for a limited time, this time featuring games and games from indie developer Frozenbyte -- including their original hit game Shadowgrounds, the sequel Shadowgrounds: Survivor, the popular fantasy platformer Trine, a pre-order for a new game called Splot, and a Windows-only bonus of the never-completed prototype game Jack Claw.

On August 31, Nike and Apple will be hosting one of the world's largest one-day running events, The Nike+ Human Race 10K. Individuals are able to either join together with large groups of runners in 25 different host cities or they may choose to run where they are and then upload their stats via Nike+. Runners can sign up for the event through Nike+'s website and are given the option to choose a charity that they would like to run for. Registered runners may run for the UN Refugee Agency, the Lance Armstrong Foundation or the WWF.
