ComiXology CEO denies Apple ban of comic, issue self-censored [u]

Apple approves content, issue to be available on iBookstore, ComiXology

(Updated with response from comic creator) Following the author reporting that Apple had banned an issue of an adult-oriented comic, the Cupertino manufacturer came under some fire for inconsistent application of its own standards. A new statement by ComiXology has denied that Apple had anything to do with the ban, and the comics storefront self-censored it out of respect for what it erroneously interpreted to be Apple's policies.

Marvel reintroduces free comic promotion

During last month's SXSW festival Marvel and comiXology announced they would be giving away more than 700 of their number one issues. However, the high demand crashed the company's servers and forced them to postpone the promotion. This morning the company held true to its promise and announced that it will be sending out invites to download the comics in batches to reduce server load. Customer's interested in accessing the free comics must sign up for an account on Marvel's promo page before midnight EST on April 9, and can expect to receive an invite by April 11.

DC Comics adds same-day releases to iBookstore, Kindle, Nook

Back issues added over time; 70 titles added today

Publisher DC comics announced that it is expanding digital offerings beyond just its own application. Effective immediately, the Apple iBookstore, Kindle Store, and Nook Book Store will all offer the same weekly issues that only the Comixology and DC Comics applications previously carried.

Notion Ink Adam ahead of schedule, to get comics

Notion Ink had good news for itsAdam tablet today as company founder Rohan Shravan explained that the hardware is ahead of schedule. It should reach FCC certification in the US a week earlier than first thought and should be ready to sell to the US and elsewhere shortly after early November. The firm had still thought it would have the Adam out by the end of 2010 but now is more likely to arrive on time.
