Avengers meet pinball in this fun arcade game

Modern pinball has been around since the 1940s, which just so happened to be the exact same time as the golden age of comics. Though they've both been through a lot of changes, comic books and modern pinball have been entertaining kids and adults alike for about 70 years, and aren't about to stop any time soon. Maybe that's the motivation behind why Marvel teamed up with Zen Studios to bring fans Marvel Pinball.


Report: Apple bans graphic novel over explicit sex depiction?

Mature comic points out difficulties with adult-themed works

The popular author of a "mature" comic book known as SAGA says that Apple has banned the most recent issue from its apps -- though not necessarily from its own iBookstore -- over two small images of explicit gay sex. Despite what Brian K. Vaughan says have been previous and "more graphic" imagery in previous issues, he and collaborator Fiona Staples claim that the issue is specific to the fact that in the two panels of the comic, a wounded character with a TV set for a head displays explicit male sex.


Graphicly pulls comic book apps to focus on self-publishing

Can convert comics or books for digital stores

Digital comic-book publisher Graphicly has decided to focus on emerging self-publishing markets for all kinds of visually-oriented digital books, and has consequently pulled its comic-book storefront app for both iOS and Android, though it will still publish graphic novels and comics to the various digital bookstores, including iBooks, Nook, Kindle, Kobo and others. Going forward, it will publish both comic and non-comic books.


Marvel to offer digital and print comics on same day

Comics to arrive on mobile apps without delay

Marvel is reportedly preparing to offer its entire range of comics through its mobile apps on the same day as each title hits store shelves in print form. The publisher is said to be rolling out the same-day availability over the course of the next several months, eventually covering all titles except for content licensed from third parties, according to a Gizmodo report.


Comixology revamps app, requires re-download of comics

Comixology has issued a major update to its digital comics app, now at version 3.0, that brings many improvements and changes to the graphic-publishing management and storefront app -- so many, in fact that the upgrade will require a one-time, no-cost re-downloading of the comics on users' devices. The overhaul brings a new on-demand store, a completely new interface, background downloading and a host of user-management options for their digital collections.


DC Comics announces same-day release for digital, print

Change prompts renumbering of Universe books

Starting on the last day of August, all subsequent issues of DC Comics' 52 Universe titles will be renumbered, starting from number one, as a "reboot" of the entire DC universe, as well as launching a new simultaneous digital release of ongoing titles. DC comic titles will henceforth be available for download on the same day as print publication, kicking off with a re-designed Justice League #1. DC is the first of the two major comics publishers to move to simultaneous digital and print releases.


Ehon: Mac-only e-book/e-comic library management

French software firm Kaiju Software has released a public beta of their Mac-only digital publications viewing and management software, Ehon 1.0. The program supports popular comic and manga formats such as CBR/Rar, CBZ/Zip as well as ebook formats like PDF and ePub, or even folders of images.

Four free comics for the iPad

IDW Publishing has announced four new IDW Comics applications for the iPad. Each of the free comic-shop apps offers a selection of comics with the initial download, while additional content can be added via in-app purchases. The offer enables iPad users to view enhanced versions of comics such as Star Trek, G.I. JOE, and Transformers.
