Adds recent cameras to Macs running 10.7.5 or higher
On Thursday, Apple updated its Digital Camera Raw Compatibility plugin for both iPhoto and Aperture to version 4.04 in order to include a number of recent camera models. The update adds three Leica models, four Pentax cameras and one Nikon and Sony model each. The update is available for Macs running either OS X Lion (10.7.5 or higher) or Mountain Lion (10.8.2 or later). The update is automatically available through Software Update, or users can download the 5MB file directly from Apple's Support Downloads page.

Sensor capable of 10MP resolution video at 60fps
Aptina Imaging is preparing to supply 1-inch image sensors to manufacturers. The AR1011HS digital camera image sensor has a resolution of 10 megapixels, a pixel pitch of 3.4 microns, and can record broadcast quality quad HD video, which makes the sensor potentially attractive to Tier-1 OEMs for bridge and mirrorless cameras.

Camera produces dry prints in under a minute
Polaroid has introduced its latest digital camera, the Z340, which resurrects aesthetics from the company's instant-film cameras of the '80s. The large build enables the camera to integrate its own printer, which produces 3x4-inch prints that feed out of a slot on the front panel. A 2.7-inch display can be used for previews or photo editing, with options for cropping or adding artistic frames.

16.1MP and 14.1MP versions, take HD video
Panasonic has announced the expansion of its ultraslim Lumix FP series of digital cameras with the DMC-FP7 and DMC-FP5, which take stills as well as 720p HD video. Like the models introduced last year, the FP7 and FP5 both have a flush mounted, 4x optical zoom lens and a touchscreen LCD for viewfinding and controlling camera settings. Both cameras have 70MB of internal memory. The FP5 is a 14.1-megapixel camera and uses a 4:3 ratio, 3in. LCD. The FP7 is 16.1-megapixels, with a 16:9, 3.5in. LCD.

Feature wide-angle LEICA lens, 720p HD video
Panasonic has introduced four new cameras to its Lumix FH-series of digital cameras. The cameras take 720p HD video and offer shutter speeds as fast as 0.005 seconds for still photos. The FH27 and FH25 upgrade the FH20 introduced last year with a 16.1-megapixel sensor and a Leica DC 28mm-equivalent wide angle lens with 8x optical zoom. The FH27 features a 3-inch LCD touch control screen, while the FH25 has a standard 2.7-inch LCD.

Leica to update M-series with 18.2 MP sensor?
Several image leaks allegedly show upcoming Leica cameras, the X1 and M9, according to Leica Rumors. Unconfirmed specs point to a full-frame 18.2 megapixel sensor on the M9, up from the current 10 megapixel component. The camera is also claimed to offer improved noise performance at high ISO settings, while adding an SD card slot and a free copy of Adobe Lightroom.

New Pentax cameras
Ahead of CES, Pentax on Tuesday announced two compact digital cameras: the Optio P70 and Optio E70. The ultra-slim PENTAX Optio P70 digital compact camera offers 12 megapixel resolution, a 4X optical zoom (equivalent to 27.5mm-110mm), and a wide angle 28mm lens; The Optio P70 features metal body and is available in multiple colors. Digital Camera Raw 2.3
Apple on Tuesday released Digital Camera Raw Compatibility 2.3, which it says extends RAW file compatibility for Aperture 2 and iPhoto ’08 for the following cameras: Canon EOS 50D, Nikon D90, Sony DSLR-A900, and Nikon Coolpix P6000. Apple also noted that the update also addresses issues related to specific cameras and overall stability. The 4MB update is available via the Web as well via the Software Update in Mac OS X.

Canon 10MP PowerShot SX10
In addition to its flagship EOS 5D Mark II, Canon on Wednesday also expanded its ultra-zoom SX-Series with the PowerShot SX10 IS. The new compact digital camera features a wide-angle (28mm-560mm) 20x optical zoom lens, an Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS), Canon's new DIGIC 4 image processor and a new "smooth, curved grip." Canon EOS 5D Mark II SLR
Canon on Wednesday introduced its EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR camera, the successor to Canon’s popular EOS 5D. The full-frame (24 x 36mm), 21.1-megapixel CMOS sensor is housed in a more compact and affordable camera body and offers HD video capture at 1920 x 1080 resolution. Leveraging the new DIGIC 4 imaging processor, the company claims the new sensor delivers lower noise along with an expanded sensitivity range from ISO 50 to ISO 25,600 (three full stops higher than the original EOS 5D). Canon's proprietary DIGIC 4 Imaging Processor delivers fast 14-bit analog-to-digital conversion and continuous shooting at 3.9 fps for an unlimited number of full-resolution JPEGs (up to the capacity of the memory card) or up to 14 RAW images in a single burst when using a UDMA CF card. Compatible with Canon EF lenses, it is scheduled for delivery by the end of November and will be sold in a body-only configuration ($2,700) and in a kit version with Canon’s EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM zoom lens ($3,500).

Microsoft Nikon agreement
Microsoft and Nikon on Thursday announced that they have signed a cross-licensing patent agreement on Nikon's digital camera patents as well as consumer electronics patents from each company. The details of the agreement, which covers a "broad range" of consumer products from each company, does include some (undisclosed) compensation by Nikon. Looking to innovate on each other's technologies, the companies have previously collaborated on bringing wireless cameras and RAW processing and said that that the new patent cross-licensing agreement will "substantially benefit customers of consumer products including digital cameras."

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T700
Sony on Thursday launched its Cyber-shot DSC-T700 and DSC-T77 digital cameras with what it claims are more "intelligent" shooting functions. The 10-megapixel T77 camera is Sony's thinnest model at less than 5/8 of an inch with a 3-inch, 16x9 touch panel LCD screen. It features updated intelligent scene recognition technology, Smile Shutter and face detection technologies (with child and adult priority), as well as high sensitivity shooting (up to ISO 3200), eleven scene modes, and in-camera image management. The slightly thicker T700 -- measuring just over 5/8 of an inch -- model offers all the features of the T77 unit plus 4GB of internal memory (nearly 1,000 full-resolution photos) along with a larger 3.5-inch, wide touch panel Xtra Fine LCD screen for photo-like viewing (210 pixel-per-inch resolution).

Nikon on Thursday introduced its newest flagship COOLPIX P6000 compact camera. Offering 13.5 megapixel resolution, the solid Magnesium alloy P6000 includes a new, built-in global positioning system (GPS) unit for geo-tagging photos, RAW file support, my Picturetown connectivity with built-in uploading functions via the built-in Ethernet and Nikon's exclusive EXPEED image processing. The P6000 can record "geotags" of a photo's location with both latitudinal and longitudinal coordinates and users can pinpoint the location via maps available in Nikon ViewNX Software.

Canon EOS Rebel XS
Canon on Tuesday announced a new entry-level d-SLR: the EOS Rebel XS, which along with the recently introduced EOS Rebel XSi, replaces the popular Rebel XT and Rebel XTi cameras. The company has decided to rollout some of the advanced features in its XSi features, but left out others to reduce-costs and differentiate the new entry-level d-SLR. Sporting the company's new Digic III processor and a new live view mode, Canon's EOS Rebel XS has a 10.1 megapixel image sensor that is almost identical to that used in the Rebel XTi (short of the XSi's 12.2 megapixels, but higher than the 8MP on the original XT); the new Rebel XS also features a 2.5-inch LCD, which is larger than the 1.8-inch on the XT but smaller than 3.0-inch LCD on the XSi).

DC800 camera goes 200ft
SeaLife on Tuesday introduced its new sleek, modern DC800 8-megapixel camera, which it says is water-proof to 200ft (60m) underwater. The SD/SDHC-based camera offers an ergonomic design, large shutter button and well-spaced buttons to help use the device underwater. In addition, the DC800 can also be removed from its rubber armored waterproof housing for use under more standard conditions and includes a wide-angle optical lens with 4x optical/5x digital zoom, a 2.7-inch LCD, auto focus up to 2 inches (5cm) and a video mode to capture high-resolution digital video (640x480) along with sound.
