Information on ePubs sent in plain text over unencrypted channels to Adobe servers
If Adobe didn't enough problems with its reputation for security because of the frequency of the company's products being used for attack vectors, then the claim that the company collects detailed, personal data through Digital Editions 4 will undoubtedly further alienate some customers. The program, which is used to enforce digital rights management on borrowed books from libraries or other online avenues, is reporting details on the use of the ePub files back to Adobe - and is unencrypted, inviting further privacy and security issues.

First Harry Potter e-books come in ePub form
JK Rowling's own Pottermore store became the first to carry Harry Potter e-books on Tuesday. The shop has all seven novels in ePub format. The files are unprotected and will work with iPads and other iOS devices along with Android hardware and anything else that takes standard ePub files; Kindle users get their own file format for support.
iBooks ePubs can have DRM removed
New updates to copy protection stripping tool Requiem appear to have removed the copy protection from Apple's paid iBooks downloads. The update so far is only known to work with ePubs and not Apple's newer .ibooks textbook format, but it has been tested on the MobileRead forums and elsewhere as working. The app had already worked with pre-iTunes Plus music and with at least some videos.
