Despite typical 1.x issues, a treat for readers
After a long struggle with Apple's App Store policies that resulted in the company changing its business model, the typographical service Readability has arrived for iOS devices. Readability takes articles from the web and reconfigures the content to eliminate ads and other distractions, adjust the font and size for best readability and lets users save articles for later reading, now syncing across between computers and iOS devices automatically.

Qualcomm brings its Mirasol technology to life
Qualcomm has teamed with Kyobo Book Center to launch the world's first e-reader to use a Mirasol-based color e-paper display. After killing what would have been the first generation version of the device in June before its planned launch, Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs has now made good on his promise to deliver a 5.7-inch Mirasol device. The Kyobo eReader, which also runs Android 2.3 has now gone on sale in South Korea for the equivalent of $310.

Device focused on European markets
Bookeen has introduced its latest e-book reader, the Cybook Orizon, which features a multi-touch display with improved contrast. The company claims its touchscreen implementation does not compromise the display readability, even in direct sunlight. Multi-touch gestures can be used to change pages, annotate, highlight text, or adjust the character size.

Version 3.2 supports multitasking, rich text, more
After inspiring the Kobo eReader and originally geared toward the iPad, Kobo has now brought its eReading app up to iOS 4 compatibility. The app, which opens up access to numerous eBooks in the Kobo library uses Kobo-optimized formatting, offers alternate appearances for bookmarks and an 'I'm Reading' feature for quickly switching between active books. It can sync across multiple platforms.

Fate of products uncertain
iRex Technologies has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection following poor sales of its DR800 e-book reader. The Netherlands-based company, known for developing electronic paper technology, has blamed its financial woes on delays during the FCC approval process.

App now optimized for iPhone and iPad
Lexcycle has released an update to its Stanza app, which is now available as a universal title for the iPhone and iPad. Version 3.0 allows users to take advantage of the iPad's larger display, presenting a similar layout to dedicated e-book readers.

Image shows form similar to DX
An anonymous source has allegedly snapped a picture of an unannounced Kindle variant with a black color scheme. The image, posted on CrunchGear, was shot in a Seattle coffee shop where the device was being photographed by someone with a Canon 5D Mark II.

Reader aims to maintain entry-level pricing

Sleek, easy to navigate, touch screen Sony eReader
The Sony PRS-600 Reader Touch Edition provides users with a different approach to eReaders than its predecessors or its rival, the Amazon Kindle. The eReader supports various formats including text, Microsoft Word and Adobe PDFs, and features an overhauled desktop software. The included application connects to the Sony eBook store with reduced priced eBooks, such as New York Times bestsellers for $10. The app synchronizes with the eReader, transferring eBooks, RSS feeds and "Collections" which are similar to iTunes playlists, but for books.
