Can use dual USB 3 port for up to 10Gb per second

HighPoint Technologies has launched two new Mac and PC compatible external storage solutions using USB 3.0 for a theoretical speed of up to 5Gb per second per port, or 10Gb per second total possible throughput in the dual-bay, "toaster" design RocketStor Smart Backup and RocketStore Smart RAID. The units can accommodate two SATA standard-size HDD and SSDs up to 6Gb per second in speed and can work with add-on USB 3 PCI-E cards.

128-bit AES encryption in capacities up to 500GB

LaCie has expanded its line of external storage products with the Rugged Safe, an external drive designed to protect data. Contents of the drive are secured using 128-bit AES hardware encryption, while a fingerprint scanner has been integrated directly onto the top of the housing for additional biometric authentication.

New Rugged HDD claimed to reach 110MB/s speeds

LaCie has announced the Rugged USB 3.0 external storage and two USB flash drives, the CooKey and WhizKey. The Rugged drive features the latest USB 3.0 interface, with data transfer rates claimed to reach up to 110MB/s. The company has yet to announced capacities for the updated version, although the current USB 2.0 model is available with 250GB, 320GB or 500GB hard drives.

Updated external storage offers faster USB 3.0

Western Digital today shipped its fastest My Book external hard drive, featuring the USB 3.0 interface, which is 10 times faster than the previous-generation USB 2.0 interface. According t the company, the "SuperSpeed" USB 3.0 interface on My Book 3.0 drives provides transfer rates of up to 5 gigabits-per-second, allowing users to open and save files up to 4.7 times faster than USB 2.0. In addition, the drive is compliant with the USB-IF SuperSpeed USB 3.0 standard to provide compatibility with other USB 3.0, USB 2.0 products, and USB 1.1 products.
