Social network to let users share multiple file types

Facebook may be moving into the file sharing sector, crowding a space already occupied by Dropbox, Box, and, newly, Google. Sources have told Mashable that the social networking giant is preparing to allow users to share a number of file types some time very soon. The feature will be integrated into Facebook's Group pages.

Search giant points to safe harbor provisions

Google has filed an amicus brief in the ongoing lawsuit filed by Motion Picture Association of America studios against file sharing site Hotfile. The search giant has accused the plaintiffs of attempting to "distort" the accepted interpretation of safe harbor provisions detailed in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Site accused of violating copyright law

The UK High Court has reportedly ruled that file sharing site The Pirate Bay has violated copyright laws. In a judgement that was presented on Monday, Justice Arnold concluded that "both users and the operators" of the site infringe on copyrights in the UK.

Hackers attack Interior Ministry website

Ukrainian authorities have reportedly shut down file sharing site Ex.ua over alleged copyright violations, just weeks after US authorities pushed to shutter Megaupload. A spokesman with the Interior Ministry, Volodymyr Polishchuk, suggests the site was closed following complaints from a variety of companies, including Microsoft and Adobe.

Judge allows controversial measure to proceed

DC-based US Copyright Group has won a ruling that will allow it to proceed in a case against thousands of people alleged to have shared files illegally. The decision by Federal Judge Beryl Howell will require ISPs to turn over the identities of thousands of users who have engaged in P2P file sharing. This is the first time that a subpoena for the identities of thousands of people alleged to have shared files illegally has been granted.

The new models are geared toward file sharing, centralized backups and web hosting. They also offer low power consumption and are almost noise-free.

Zevrix Solutions has announced a new media delivering software, File Courier 1.0. The app is designed to improve the efficiency of sending files and folders via FTP or between local destinations. Automatic e-mail notifications, containing delivery info, can be sent to recipients, while a variety of customizable templates can be used to present the items and locations. Users can also encrypt disk images with passwords, or create low resolution versions of PDF files that can be attached to an e-mail.

XtraLean has announced its latest file searching and sharing tool, DataLore, that utilizes both Spotlight and Bonjour technology. The app enables users to access and browse a variety of content both on their own computer and other systems connected to a network. It uses search-as-you-type technology, along with filters that allow users to search by file types. DataLore also comes with customizable search features, enabling specific folders to be selected or deselected when trying to find an item.

Sans Digital has relaunched its dual-bay RAID network-attached server, the MobileNAS MN2LP - 2 Bay RAID NAS Server, featuring an LCD readout display. The new LCD provides RAID, system info and the IP address. The two-disk server is geared towards file sharing on a home or office network. It offers both RAID 0 striping for better performance or RAID 1 mirroring for redundancy and better backup. It works over Mac networks via Bonjour networking and is compatible with Windows via CIFS as well as Linux via NFS -- it can support all three platforms at once.
