One-port and two-port cards now available for fiber, copper
Sonnet Technologies today announced the launch of its Presto 10GbE one-port and Presto 10GbE Server two-port 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) PCI-e cards. These 8x cards enable users to connect to high-speed infrastructure and storage systems using the 10GbE standard, which offers up to 10 times the performance of Gigabit Ethernet.
Ethernet adapter out now, FW800 arriving later
In addition to the other higher-profile offerings at Apple's Worldwide Developer's conference today, the company announced two new adapter cables for all Thunderbolt-equipped Macs. Shipping today is the Gigabit Ethernet Thunderbolt cable, and the Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt adapter cable arrives later this summer.
Device connects consoles, HDTVs, computers, DVRs
Trendnet is using the Computex show in Taipei, Taiwan to show off its new 450Mbps dual-band wireless "N" media bridge, dubbed the TEW-680MB. The device features four Gigabit Ethernet ports, a one-button security configuration and connection setup to Trendnet routers, Quality of Service technology that prioritizes gaming, internet calls and video streams, and LEDs on the front to convey device status.
Small Tree network driver
Small Tree has announced its latest network driver software, based on the Intel 82599 10 Gigabit Ethernet Controller. The driver is compatible with the next generation of Intel's Ethernet 10 Gigabit PCI Express Adapter. The network driver allows applications to interact with the computer hardware and aims to improve 10 gigabit connections.
Gigabit network cards
Sonnet Technologies has introduced two new network cards the Presto Gigabit PCIe Server and the Presto Gigabit PCI-X Sever. The new network cards add two gigabit ethernet ports to any compatible computer, and offer enhanced network performance through support for jumbo packet transfers. They also improve reliability with transparent failover protection in case a cable gets disconnected. Presto Gigabit PCIe Server features a PCI Express x4 host bus interface for maximum performance in recent computers, while Presto PCI-X Server features a 64-bit, 133MHz PCI-X host bust interface for compatibility with older computers. Both cards allow gigabit transfers over common CAT-5 cabling. The cards are both available for $200 and are compatible with Mac OS X and Windows XP/Vista.
Sonnet Gigabit adapters
Sonnet has released three new Gigabit networking products for both older and new Macs: Presto Gigabit Pro PCI network adapter card, the Presto Gigabit PCIe Pro PCI Express network adapter card, and the Presto Gigabit Ethernet Pro ExpressCard/34 network adapter card. These Sonnet Gigabit Ethernet cards expand or add Gigabit Ethernet connectivity in any compatible computer, and offer enhanced performance through support for link aggregation with onboard Ethernet ports, and jumbo packet data transfers. Sonnet says the Presto Gigabit Pro network adapter cards deliver enhanced networking support as well as offer gigabit speeds over common CAT-5 cabling; they also support 1000/100/10BaseT auto-negotiation and full/half duplex communication.
