Scanner Pro becomes first free App of the Week for 2014
The first "App of the Week" on iTunes for 2014 is Readdle's Scanner Pro, a normally $7 program that turns an iPhone or iPad camera into a scanner. The program combines plane mechanics and border detection to straighten documents, then saves them as PDF files on a variety of cloud services, including iCloud, Dropbox and Google Drive. With the purchase of in-app credits, users can also send the PDF scan as an outgoing fax which is delivered to conventional fax machines.
Hack not stealthy, installation requires administrative password input by user

Listing seeks coders with OS X, iOS experience
Recently-uncovered job listings seems to indicate that Apple is looking to bring a version of its pro-photography program Aperture to iOS. The listings show that Apple's Aperture team is looking to bring on user-interface engineers, managers, and software coders with experience working in the iOS environment. Experience in programming for iOS is listed as a key requirement in the listing, which seems to suggest that the listing is aimed at bringing in talent to eventually produce an iOS app, AppleInsider reports.
iSight, cooling patents
Apple has today been granted three patents by the US Patent and Trademark Office, relating to several different technologies. The first of these is entitled "Video Conferencing Apparatus and Method," and covers a particular implementation of webcams. The patent makes specific reference to the defunct external iSight cameras, but also applies to the internal ones incorporated into modern Macs, and could theoretically be used to create an iPhone video camera.
Google Vidnik for YouTube
Google on Thursday unveiled Vidnik, a new application designed to allow Mac users to create and upload YouTube videos using a built-in iSight, Firewire or USB camera. Vidnik is a free, open source application that can record, edit, and label videos, and then directly upload them to a YouTube account for public viewing. Use of the app is reportedly quite simple, offering all interface control in a single window, with large, familiar buttons and controls.
