7.0-inch model joins 4.3-inch sibling

Archos has started shipping its second Android 2.2 (Froyo) internet tablet, the Archos 70. It joins its 4.3-inch sibling, the Archos 43, which began shipping yesterday. While the Archos 43 is aimed at the iPod touch and has no obvious Android competitors, the Archos 70 joins a slew of Android internet tablets that aim to challenge the iPad. The Archos 70 shares most of its major components with the Archos 43, other than its larger 7.0-inch 800x400 capacitive multi-touch display.

Ready to tackle iPod touch

First announced by Archos at IFA back in August, the Archos 43 internet tablet with Android 2.2 (Froyo) is now shipping. The device centers on a 4.3-inch 854x480 display, has Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) and Bluetooth connectivity as well as an HDMI output. It comes with 16GB of on-board storage, which can be expanded by utilizing its microSD card slot. Powering the device is an ARM Cortex A8 running at 1GHz with DSP and graphics support for 3D OpenGL ES 2.0.

Features 2 cameras and offered in range of colors

Dell has named its "Streak" tablet-like device the Mini 5, positioning it as a step up from the Mini 3 mobile phone announced earlier this week. Shown as a technology concept earlier this week at an exclusive press conference, the company said that it was considering even larger 7- and 10-inch versions of the same concept. In addition, the 5-inch internet tablet device with multitouch functions will be available in a range of colors, including pink and black in addition to the red version shown off to journalists at CES, according to Pocket-Lint.

Nokia next-gen N810 tablet

Nokia has made announcements about its next-generation Internet tablet based on the company’s N810 device, according to a Wednesday report covering discussions regarding the company's Linux-based Maemo operating system. While there is no device release yet, the next-gen tablet promises to bring with it cellular data connectivity over the HSPA 3G network, a faster Ti OMAP3 processor and built-in high-definition cameras.
