Cloud library accessible from Mac, PC, iPhone, web

RealNetworks is using CES 2011 to preview a new cloud-centric media library, Unifi. The service tracks all a user's media, from local devices, social media and into the cloud. It catalogs and organizes the content into a single library, supporting search limiters such as media types, devices or tags. The library will track mobile devices, networked data and will eventually track media on Internet TVs and game consoles.

Teases MP3 with AMOLED, 720p, SRS enhancements

Viliv is showing a new media player on its website, the P3 Prime. The site is in Korean with no English language version available, but the images feature a device with 3.7-inch, 480x800 AMOLED touchscreen, and appears to run dual OS Android and Windows CE operating systems. The site hints at 720p video, although it's not known which video formats will be supported.

Companies will establish a set of common standards

Several media companies, including four magazine publishers and News Corp., have organized a joint venture aimed at optimizing content for the upcoming generations of electronic devices, according to The Wall Street Journal. People familiar with the matter suggest the new entity will be announced sometime Tuesday.

Amazon VOD service via Roku...

Roku's Amazon VOD beta

After previous announcements of Amazon collaborating with Roku to provide Video On Demand video service via the Roku Digital Video Player, the service has now entered a private beta, according to a statement by Roku itself. Expected to show in a 2.0 update, no confirmation has been given in regards to if the update will also include YouTube access, or if the VOD will also be offered in HD. Already streaming video from Netflix, Roku is continuing to expand its media and will offer more than 40,000 movies and TV shows through Amazon.

CorePlayer Flash on iPhone

CorePlayer Mobile may soon bring Flash video capabilities to the iPhone, as a report shows on its website that an iPhone and iPod touch version of the media client is in development, as well as for Google's Android OS. The multi-platform client offers mobile users access to Flash, and many different media types: H.264, MPEG, DivX, WMV, MP3, AAC, OGG, MOV, and ASX, among others. CoreCodec has not said when it will specifically launch the player, with a tag on its site merely stating "Coming Soon!"

AtomicView media manager

AntZero on Monday unveiled AtomicView, a new digital asset manager that allows users to organize, browse, and output images, video, and sound. AtomicView makes active use of a Mac's GPU, providing quick scrolling features, as well as multi-threaded tasks that take advantage of multi-processor and multi-core systems. AntZero says the application fully supports all major media formats, and is selling AtomicView for $150 from its website.
