Fortune's annual list of Most Powerful Women in Business released, features IBM's Ginni Rometty, App

Fortune has released its 17th annual list of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business, with Apple's Angela Ahrendts making the top 30. The list, compiled by Fortune editors, produced the list with four criteria: the size and importance of the woman's business in the global economy, the health and direction of the business, the arc of their career, and social and cultural influence. Topping the list is Chairman, CEO and President of IBM Ginni Rometty, who in an interview with Fortune described IBM's recent partnership with Apple for developing services optimized for iOS and IBM support.

TransferWise money transfer app now available for Android

London-based startup TransferWise has launched a native Android app, allowing users to transfer money between currencies. A peer-to-peer service, TransferWise facilitates direct money transfers to users in other countries. Six months earlier, TransferWise had released an iOS native app, with the "app" for Android users available on Google Play until today being only a shortcut to its website. Free to download, TransferWise for Android is compatible with Android 2.3 or later.

iFixit partners with Fairphone, aims to reduce cell phone waste

Do-it-yourself repair guide company iFixit has announced its plan to partner with Dutch social enterprise Fairphone. Fairphone's aim has been to address the wastefulness and disposability of the cell phone market; Fairphone is offering a cell phone that ships with its own set of repair guides through a preinstalled iFixit app. The Fairphone sources its parts from conflict-free manufacturers, and with a published cost breakdown available for the phone, one can know exactly what is being paid for upon purchasing.

Tesla founder dances around Apple acquisition talk

Hints, but does not say, that 'conversations' centered around battery tech

Following reports that Apple had secretly met with officials from electric car company Tesla to discuss unspecified partnerships, the CEO Elon Musk commented on the rumors -- but phrased his replies in such a way that suggested either he was uninvolved in the talks (which seems unlikely) or didn't want to make clear what the "conversations" with Apple were actually about. Though confirming the meetings, Musk said little about them.

Intel CEO: Apple relationship strong, growing 'closer' with time

Hints at future wearable tech, may help provide Apple with ARM chips

During a Reddit "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) session, new Intel CEO Brian Krzanich revealed that the chipmaker's relationship with Apple continued to be "very close," despite Apple using its own ARM-based chip designs in its most popular products, the iPhone and iPad. Intel continues to supply Apple with chips and graphics systems for most of its Mac line, however, and Krzanich said the two companies continue to "grow closer," suggesting potential future partnerships.

Telefonica Digital and Evernote announce global partnership with kick-off in Brazil

Launching in Brazil today, Telefonica Digital's Vivo brand is offering customers one year's access to top-tier features with Evernote Premium. Evernote helps users improve their productivity on Android and iOS devices, by creating written notes and to-do lists as well as photo capture, and sync this media across personal devices. The partnership is giving Vivo customers access to a 1GB upload limit and the ability to read notes offline, as well as benefitting from higher security features. It is yet to be determined whether this offer is exclusive to new customers.

Samsung partnering with DoCoMo, others to develop chips

Companies collaborating on smartphone components

Samsung is reportedly building new partnerships with Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo and several other companies to develop chips that will be used in upcoming smartphones. According to a Nikkei report (sub. required), the South Korean company is attempting to decrease its dependence on components produced by competing chip maker Qualcomm.

The special section will also include a variety of other content such as bonus tracks, videos, iPhone apps, and more.

Adobe eBook protected content coming to Stanza

Stanza adds Adobe content

Lexcycle has announced an agreement with Adobe that will add protected-content eBook support to its Stanza app for the iPhone. The agreement expands Stanza support into a large variety of commercially published eBooks from major publishers. As part of the the partnership, Stanza will be compatible with PDF and EPUB rendering technologies from Adobe along with the eBook content protection technology.

Analysts wary of Apple-Akamai, Google rumor

Akamai, Apple rumor false

Akamai, the company in charge on most of Apple’s content delivery for iTunes and most of its online services, was falsely reported to being dumped by the company, in favor of a switch to Google. Seeking Alpha writes that Swiss American subsidiary Credit Suisse, despite the fact that they are not Akamai’s financial representatives, was blamed for initiated the rumor. Swiss American later denied that they gave any information regarding Apple’s supposed plans, even though technologist Dan Rayburn received the update from several different analysts.
