New Sony compacts, frames
Continuing a bevy of electronics announcements, Sony has debuted three new Cyber-shots, beginning with the W220 and W210. Both are rated at 12.1 megapixels, and equipped with 4x optical zoom. The cameras are also able to reach ISO 3200 sensitivity, and have options for automatic face, smile and scene recognition. The one distinguishing aspect is image stabilization, as only the W220 uses true optical stabilization instead of digital.

Viewsonic digital frames
Viewsonic has unveiled two eight-inch digital photo frames, the DPG801BK and DPG807BK. Both devices feature SwifTouch touch-screen technology that only illuminates the control buttons when touched. Users can keep JPEG or BMP images in the 512MB integrated storage, insert a memory card into the six-in-one reader, or directly connect devices to a USB port. The TFT LCD screen supports resolution up to 800 by 600 pixels, with a contrast ratio of 500:1.

Samsung WiFi frames
Samsung on Wednesday introduced four new LCD digital photo frames, ranging from 8- to 10-inches in size, with two of the frames sporting WiFi connectivity. The 8-inch models consist of the SPF-85H and WiFi-enabled SPF-85V, while the 10-inch versions are the SPF-105P and the wireless SPF-SPF105V. All frames are encased in a glossy black bezel that offers Samsung's Starlight Touch controls, which combine with several on-screen touch controls.

Kodak places OLED order
Kodak has placed an order with Chi Mei EL (CMEL) for 7.6-inch OLED displays for use in the company's digital photo frames, according to today's report. CMEL specializes in manufacturing OLED panels and is owned by LCD maker Chi Mei Optoelectronics. The supplier is expected to start production of the 7.6-inch panels in September and ship them to Kodak in time for sale during the holiday shopping season.

Kodak W820, W1020 frames
Continuing a series of announcements, Kodak has uncovered two new digital photo frames, the W820 and W1020. The two measure 8 and 10 inches, and display images in a 16:9 aspect ratio, at an unspecified HD resolution. Their central feature however is Wi-Fi access, which lets users copy photos and videos directly from a computer, as well as stream from websites including Flickr and Kodak Gallery.

Essentials 2 for iPhoto
onOne Software this week announced Essentials 2 software for iPhoto, a collection of four easy-to-use software tools to help correct color, creatively blur a photo for dramatic visual impact, add creative borders and resize digital images for high quality large prints. The software tools, the company says, are based on technology used in the professional level onOne Software Photoshop plug-ins PhotoTune 2.2, FocalPoint 1.0, PhotoFrame 3.1 and Genuine Fractals 5. The Essentials 2 for iPhoto software suite provides users of the popular iPhoto image editing and organizing software with four important plug-in solutions to solve common digital imaging problems.

USBfever stand, IR remote
Aside from its PPS2, USBfever has added two other products to its lineup for Apple portables. The first of these is an infrared remote (right), which operates at distances of up to 32.8 feet, and controls basic iPhone/iPod functions such as play/pause, skipping forward and backward, and adjusting volume. To work, users must plug the remote's included dongle into a player's dock connector; supported devices include everything from the third generation iPod onwards, with the exception of Shuffles and the first-generation Nano. The remote package costs $20.

Kodak digital photo frames
Kodak on Thursday announced the addition of three digital photo frames, the M820, M1020 and P720 , to its range of products. The P720 is a standard 7-inch digital still photo frame, while the 8-inch M820 and 10-inch M1020 are from Kodak's Multimedia line. All three feature Kodak's new back-lit Quick Touch Border, which allows for navigating through files by touching the frame, leaving the display free of smudges.

Parrot frame, vehicle kits
Portable electronics maker Parrot has begun shipping the DF7700, an unorthodox new photo frame. While nominally a standard seven-inch digital display, it ships with its own SIM card, complete with a dedicated phone number. This allows any cellphone owner, including friends and family, to upload to the frame from wherever they are, so long as they have been given the proper number. Over 500 images can be stored on the frame, and alternate upload methods include a USB port and an SD slot. At the moment however, the DF7700 is only being sold through a French wireless carrier.

Samsung SPF-83V
Samsung today rolled out the SPF-83V, its first photo frame to offer a wireless sync feature. The 8-inch LCD incorporates an 802.11g Wi-Fi connection that will pull photos across the Internet from any site or service with an RSS image feed, such as Flickr; Windows Live members with a photo gallery also have access, Samsung notes. The feature keeps the frame stocked with images regardless of where and when the photos have been uploaded.
