400GB Toshiba laptop drive
Playing catch-up with competitors Hitachi and Samsung -- both of which have begun shipping 500GB laptop drives -- Toshiba has finally announced a new 400GB high-capacity drive along with a new line-up of high-performance 7,200rpm 2.5-inch HDDs. The new 400GB drive boosts areal density to 477Mbit/s (308Gbpsi) to achieve a capacity of 400GB on just two platters and is touted as its "low-noise flagship model." The new 400GB notebook drive (MK4058GSX) is expected to hit mass production in September and will target both notebook PC and consumer electronic applications; however, the company expects to ramp up production of its higher performance 7,200rpm models of its current drives next month, including the 320GB (MK3254GSY) model and the smaller 80GB, 120GB, 160GB and 250GB capacities.

Compact Flash RAID in 2.5"
Sans Digital has introduced Compact Flash (CF) enclosures, a new class of storage designed around flash media. The CompactSTOR CS1T and CompactRAID CR2T convert the widely popular Compact Flash card to a single 2.5-inch SATA hard drive storage device. The CS1T houses one Compact Flash card, while the CR2T supports spanning and RAID 1 (mirroring) by housing up to two Compact Flash cards. Unlike existing RAID units that utilize hard drives for storage space, the CS1T / CR2T uses pocket-sized lightweight Compact Flash cards as storage memory.

Iomega eGo Camo hard drive
Iomega on Wednesday announced a new addition to its eGo Portable Hard Drive line with the 250GB Camo eGo Hi-Speed USB 2.0 model. The camouflage-patterned drive contains a 250GB 2.5-inch HDD and is solely powered by the USB 2.0 connection. The notebook drive's tough looks are backed up by Iomega's DropGuard technology and Power Grip band that allows it to withstand drops from up to 60 inches.
