Apple updates Xerox drivers for Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion

No details on changes, version now set to 2.3

On Thursday, Apple released updated printer drivers for its supported Xerox printers for users of OS X Snow Leopard (10.6), Lion (10.7) and Mountain Lion (10.8). Unusually for such a release, there is not yet a list of the specific changed or added models supported by the built-in software. All three versions of OS X support a wide and expanding list of Xerox products, including standalone, all-in-one and wireless printer models, as well as some standalone scanners.

Restores more user control to Java web plug-in

Apple on Tuesday updated both Java and its web browser Safari for users of OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) and higher. The updates now allow users to enable the Java web plug-in on a site-by-site basis, as opposed to the "active" or "inactive" options it had previously. Following a spate of serious issues, Apple forcibly disabled the Java plug-in because of malicious, in-use threats -- though users could reactivate Java once they updated.

Apple updates printer drivers for Brother, HP printers

Update improves printing for 10.6 through 10.8 users

On Thursday, Apple updated its set of drivers for various HP and Brother models for users of OS X from 10.6 up to the present 10.8.2. The updates, available through the Software Update mechanism or through a direct update from Apple's support pages, provides the latest drivers and bring in support for new and existing models for printers, scanners and all-in-one units from the two companies. Both require a minimum of OS X 10.6.1.

Apple adds recent camera support to Aperture, iPhoto

Apple has issued a handful of minor updates in the past few days, including an update to its Raw file support for a clutch of recently released cameras. The 4.02 update to Digital Camera RAW Compatibility adds file compatibility to Aperture 3.x and iPhoto '11 for the Nikon CoolPix P7700, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3, three Sony cameras and three Olympus models. The Sony cameras added are the Alpha NEX-5R, NEX-6 and SLT-A99, while the Olympus models are the PEN E-PL5, PEN E-PM2 and Stylus XZ-2.
