Headphone socket to allow private audio streaming on Roku stick
Roku will be adding an audio output to the remote control for its Streaming Stick, according to filings with the Federal Communications Commission. The filing reveals two version of the remote control, showing a version with the headphone socket built into the side of the device, as well as a more conventional model with the new addition removed from view.
Logitech reveals Harmony Ultimate and Smart Control systems
Logitech has taken the wraps off two new smart remote controls, the Harmony Ultimate and the Smart Control. Both products incorporate Logitech's Harmony Hub and Harmony Smartphone App to enable closed-cabinet control and one-touch access to game consoles from you’re the remote or a user’s smartphone. The Harmony Ultimate can also program Philips Hue wireless lights for brightness and color.
Included 2.4-inch touchscreen shows channel icons
Logitech has added a touch-enabled remote control to its catalog. An extension to its existing remote control line, the Harmony Touch is a universal remote that has a 2.4-inch color touchscreen for extra control options, complimenting the more standard back-lit navigation and volume buttons above and below the display.
Uses IR adapter, app for maneuvers
Security and RC product maker Swann has debuted three new RC helicopters, including two that can record videos or still photos while in flight and one model, the i-Fly Micro Lighting, that includes a three-channel infrared adapter and companion app (free) to allow iOS devices to control the helicopter either by using on-screen buttons or the iDevice's tilt controls. The helicopter also comes with a full IR dual-joystick remote control.
Includes TV guide, Netflix support
Working in tandem with Griffin Technology's Beacon bluetooth-to-infrared device, Dijit is a remote-control app that uses an iPhone or Android smartphone as a remote control that is compatible with some 200,000 home electronics devices. The team behind the iPhone version have announced that a native iPad version is now in submission to Apple, re-designed to take advantage of the large tablet surface and more "swipe-able" touch controls.
Android version now out of beta
ThinkFlood has updated its RedEye universal remote control app to v2.70, as well as brought the Android version out of beta with matching features and the same version number. The update sports refreshed graphics, full support for tablets, new button themes, personalized app backgrounds and the ability to create and edit devices and infrared codes using the browser. The RedEye is a hardware docking station for infrared devices that is controlled with the matching app.
Easy-on, easy-off universal remote
Zero1.tv has introduced the VooMote One, a snap-on casing available for the iPhone 4, iPod Touch or iPhone 3GS into an infrared universal smart remote control, able to control thousands of different brands and models of infrared-based products. Using an app from the App Store (free), the iPhone or iPod Touch can offer customizable controls and the ability to "chain" commands together to a single button function.

Ryz Media have introduced an app called BlinQ for iOS devices that can work as either a stand-alone Electronic Program Guide (EPG) for finding out what's on a user's local TV stations, or -- in conjunction with the company's "Q" headset-jack-based infrared unit, can turn the device into a remote control. Users can not only find information about program times and details, but can communicated with friends or find a viewing party.
Remote controls equipment via Wi-Fi, IR, RF
Conspin has unveiled the Andi-One, a universal remote control based on Google's Android OS. The device resembles a typical smartphone, offering a 3.5-inch 320x480 touchscreen that handles the control UI or Android apps. Users can configure up to 50 devices, with remote signals communicated via infrared, radio frequency or Wi-Fi.
Remote control functionality for Google TV
YouTube has launched a new Android app that provides remote control functions for the company's Leanback interface. After signing in to a YouTube account on an Android phone and Google TV or computer, the handset is automatically paired using the Internet. Users can then control playback, find and queue videos, and have the content sent to Leanback devices.
New plugin enables e-mail viewing
RoboHippo has released an update to its HippoRemote Pro iPhone app. The utility features a virtual keyboard and multi-touch mouse, enabling users to remotely control media or switch through programs on a Mac via Wi-Fi. Version 2.0 offers new tools to create and upload personalized profiles, while providing an integrated browser to view e-mails or update Facebook.
