FCC would let TV boxes pipe streaming video

The FCC signaled its intent to advance the state of set-top TV boxes this week with a quietly published rulemaking notice. Operators delay Tru2Way

While today, July 1st, was the agreed-upon deadline between cable operators and consumer electronics companies to support the new Tru2Way interactive digital cable standard, it's now learned today that none of the cable operators will meet or come close to this date. The extension allows users to not only search for, record, and play shows with the TiVo front end (including HD shows) but also to use it for Comcast-specific functions. Through a technology dubbed tru2way, subscribers can search for movies on demand through the same interface as for regular programming. TV shows will also play uninterrupted while users check the schedule.
