Sony has outlined the pricing and availability for its range of Bravia 4K Ultra HD televisions, sets it originally revealed at CES in January. The high-resolution televisions, including one high-priced model measuring 85 inches diagonally priced at $24,999, are detailed at the same time as an updated version of the company's 4K media player.

Australian hardware producer Kogan has used CES to launch two devices destined for sale in Australia. The new range of Vizio 4K-capable televisions will be priced starting from $1,000, according to the company at CES. The new P-Series Ultra HD Full-Array LED Smart TV collection, launched at the event, will consist of 50-inch, 55-inch, 60-inch, 65-inch, and 70-inch televisions that are all able to show 3840x2160-resolution images, all with considerably lower prices compared to other Ultra HD devices.

Sony and Panasonic are dissolving their partnership for producing OLED televisions. The partnership, formed in June last year, was formed with the aim of sharing the costs of manufacturing the panels, something more expensive than other displays such as TFTs, though apparently a number of technology issues blighted the efforts and in turn forced the companies to go their separate ways.

Sometimes-accurate Taiwanese trade journal DigiTimes is reporting that Apple has recently doubled integrated chip component orders compared to the prior quarter, according to sources within its supply chain partners. If true, the move is not unexpected and would indicate that the ramp-up for production of the next iPhone and iPad models will begin shortly, aiming for an already-expected fall release. The site also reports on a rumor that Apple is talking to LG and AU Optronics about high-end 4K "Ultra HD" display panels.

The Consumer Electronics Association has changed the name of 4K to Ultra High-Definition, or the shorter Ultra HD. The rebrand was put to a vote earlier this week, and the CEA's Board of Industry Leaders unanimously voted for the change, as well as minimum performance characteristics for the format.

At the CommunicAsia technology expo today, Japanese national TV broadcaster NHK showed a projection system capable of 77680x4320 resolution, otherwise known as Super Hi-Vision (SHV) and exactly four times higher than 1920x1080 (Full HD) resolution. In contrast, 16 HDTVs at Full HD resolution would have to be stacked together to create one image equivalent to the Super Hi-Vision technology developed by NHK.
