Aptina commences production on 8MP backlit CMOS sensors

New image sensors create oversampled 6MP video at 60fps

Camera sensor manufacturer Aptina has started production on two 8-megapixel sensors designed for high-speed video. The AR0835 and AR0835HS are both backlit CMOS image sensors capable of recording at 60 frames per second using a full-width 16:9 HD video window, while also allowing for 6-megapixel still images to be taken without interrupting the video recording.

Pear Note 2 adds web sharing, playback speed adjustments

Update improves navigation, coding, imports

Useful Fruit Software has released Pear Note 2, an update to its note-taking software. Pear Note integrates text notes with audio or video recordings, while presenting information on a timeline. The software can jump to a specific point on the timeline for audio or visual playback, giving users numerous references to the text notes recorded at that point. Keynote, Powerpoint and PDF slides can be dragged into the timeline for additional references. Pear Note also provides a text search that finds entries as a user types, narrowing possibilities with each keystroke.

Swann Security debuts DVR4-2500 security recorder kit

Records up to 30 days of continues video

Swann Security has introduced its latest all-in-one security system, the DVR4-2500 recorder kit with support for Internet viewing. The package consists of four indoor/outdoor video cameras, a DVR4-2500 recorder and remote control. Video can be recorded locally, while web-based utilities can be used to access the live feed from an Internet-connected computer or iPhone.

iVideoCamera brings recording to iPhone 2G and 3G, at 3 fps

Resolution and frame rate expected to improve

Apple has finally approved a video recording app, iVideoCamera, for the iPhone 2G and 3G. The utility currently shoots video that is poor quality compared to the native recording on the iPhone 3GS. Users will be limited to one-minute segments at 3 frames per second, while the resolution is just 160x213. The developer, Laan, claims the next update will bring improvements to the frame rate, resolution, and clip length.

Camtasia Relay 1.2 adds OS X 10.6 support, smaller MP4 files

TechSmith has released an update to its lecture- and presentation-capturing software, Camtasia Relay 1.2. The program is designed to create a video or audio record of a lecture, presentation or meeting, which can then be saved as an MP4, MP3 or WMV file. The 1.2 update features improved Real Media output and smaller MP4 file sizes to help deliver faster file transfers. The company has also added support for the latest Snow Leopard and Windows 7 operating systems, along with Windows Server 2008 64-bit.

Ki Pro records real-time video on Macs

AJA Video Systems has introduced a portable video-recording system for filmmakers and video professionals, Ki Pro. The device connects to almost any digital camera through SDI, HDMI or analog inputs, and records high-quality Apple ProRes 422 QuickTime files that can be edited within Apple’s Final Cut Studio software. The device integrates both Wi-Fi and Ethernet connection capabilities, enabling users to control the device via a browser or their iPhone.
