Flutter tracks hands, uses gestures to control music, video

Google has acquired hand tracking and gesture recognition startup Flutter. Using a webcam, the app for Mac and Windows can be used to navigate music and media players such as Spotify, iTunes, YouTube, and Netflix, with open-palm and thumb-based commands allowing to play and pause, fast forward, and rewind content.

Webcam has 50-foot range, Ustream compatible

Logitech has formally announced its new HD Broadcaster Wi-Fi Webcam aimed at bloggers and video professionals. Previously leaked under the name "Wireless Webcam for Mac", the camera can wirelessly transmit 720p video at a distance of up to 50 feet over Wi-Fi to an iOS device, a Mac, or a Ustream account.

Movi.Kanti.Revo. lets users navigate through the site by speaking into a microphone or leaning left and right, in a demonstration of how a mixture of CSS with 3D transitions. HTML5 APIs, and the getUserMedia feature of WebRTC could be used in the future.

Logitech rolls out latest 720p TV Cam with Skype

Logitech has revealed its TV Cam HD with Skype video calling. Unlike the previous version, which required users to have a TV with a free USB port, the new model works with any TV with a free HDMI port. It will connect to the Internet either through Wi-Fi or by direct connection through an Ethernet port and does not require a computer.

Genius Widecam F100 Ultra wide angle webcam debuts

In an industry first, peripheral maker Genius announced a 1080p 120-degree ultra wide angle USB2 web camera. The Widecam F100 shoots video for web chats in 1080p and is compatible with Skype, FaceTime, Logitech Vid HD, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo Messenger. An integrated stereo microphone rounds out the features of the new camera.

As mentioned last week, Evological has completely re-written and re-designed EvoCam 4 to be a modern all-Cocoa application, now requiring Mac OS X 10.6 or higher. The webcam software now features H.264 video with AAC audio, as well as RTSP-over-HTTP and HTTP live streaming using HTML5, allowing EvoCam broadcasts to be viewed on mobile devices such as the iPhone and iPad without the need to install a viewer app. The program can also be used to set up networked cameras.

The device is claimed to improve the Macís Bluetooth signal, extending BT-1's range by up to 100 feet. The BTX extender also enables Bluetooth connectivity on systems lacking integrated components. Ecamm has released a Bluetooth-based webcam, the BT-1. The webcam, the first-to-market with Bluetooth technology according to company, provides standard 640x480 H.264 video resolution and 48KHz AAC audio. It has a built-in rechargeable battery that provides four hour performance between charges and its wireless range is 30 feet -- an extender is promised soon that would boost the range to 200 feet. The webcam works with applications like iChat, Skype, QuickTime Pro Player and Broadcaster, YouTube and Photo Booth.

Macally announces new gear

Macally has announced two new products: a webcam called the IceCam2 and a 7-port USB hub called the TriHub. The IceCam2 is a driver-free USB webcam with microphone, capable of 30 frames per second at 640x480 resolution. It can swivel 360 degrees horizontally and 135 degrees vertically, has spring-loaded clips to keep it securely attached to a flat panel, and has adjustable focus. It requires Mac OS X 10.4.11 and above for iChat and Skype and also works with Windows XP (SP2). It is priced at $30 plus shipping and is available now.
